Public Virtue Institute is an organization for web-based Civic Activism & Popular Democracy. Virtue Institute aims to revitalize and redevelop the idea of republicanism in Indonesia's national practice – as mandated by the principles in Pancasila and the 1945 constitutional – with its three main pillars: constitutionalism & rule of law, civic activism, and public virtue. The revitalization of the idea of a republic becomes important as the experience with liberal democracy for the last one and a half decade potentially diminished the state's public responsibility and declined values of social citizenship. In the neoliberal economic structure, symptoms arise where state is being even more dictated by the market and citizens degraded as merely consumers. The revitalization of the idea of a republic is aimed to oppose the above tendencies which are inherently practiced in liberal political democracy.
