The Board of Trustees is the highest governance board representing stakeholders from the government, the public, and the university itself. The Board of Trustees membership is comprised of several elements: • the Minister of Education and Culture, • the University Academic Senate, • the Chancellor, • the Society, • the Academic Administrative/Professional Employee, and • the Student who are all appointed or dismissed by the Minister for a 5-year term. The student length of term is only one year, considering that their main priority is to complete their studies, and thus replacement by younger student representative takes place annually. Duties & Obligations of the Board of Trustees: 1. Establish UI general policies; 2. Supervise the financial condition of UI; 3. Legalize the Long Term Development Plan, Strategic Plan, and Budget Work Plan and evaluate its implementation; 4. Provide input to the Chancellor for the management of UI, and the implementation of legislation; 5. Assess the performance of the Chancellor once a year, together with the Academic Senate and the Council of Professors; 6. Appoint and dismiss the Chancellor of UI ; and 7. Resolve UI issues that cannot be resolved by other organizations after passing the consideration of coordination meetings between organs.
