This museum presents in detail every part of the Indonesian nation's timeline, from pre-historic times to modern times. This museum presents works of art such as carvings, sculptures, paintings, knits, woven and various other beautiful handicrafts. The museum also features miniature traditional houses made of wood and bamboo as well as cultural works from the regions. The museum is also famous as the Elephant Museum with the Elephant Sculpture icon in front of the old building. This old building holds the history of the Indonesian people. While the new building which stands next to it presents a modern part of the Indonesian nation.

One of big museum in Jakarta. National Museum of Indonesia. It is about the past, present research and for better future. It contains many things. Really big space. New building also has about 7 level, I think. Many good lighting but for taking a picture with us as object beside it, it's not really good. We can enter whatever the rooms but unfortunately, it SHOULD BE DIRECTED so we can have like good story, may be with the sign or light or something else. And air conditioning must be better, I suggest.

The largest museum in Indonesia, which is further adorned with various kinds of artistic work by local artists, making this museum in the future a window to Indonesia in the eyes of the world Today begins the process of washing the museum icon, the elephant statue

I did not expect this museum to be really big. It has 6 floors judging from the numbers inside the lift (I managed only until the 4th floor). On the first floor you can find a lot of collection of ancient statues, rocks and writing ranging back to the era of Majapahit empire. As you go up to the second floor, it will display some of the collection of bones and even skeleton of pre-historic life found in Indonesia. The third floor will display more about daily life accessories & clothing from various region of the country. And on the 4th floor (please be aware that no camera or taking picture is allowed) and that is because this is probably the most expensive part of the museum : its displaying a lot of real ancient ceramics (believe me a lot of them) mainly from China. And as you go to the other room you will find some of the real golds accessories origins from Indonesia. The place is indeed full of knowledge, beauty & wisdom about the history of Indonesia. I would recommend everyone to visit this place to know more about this country and how rich this country is actually is.

You can find the culture of Indonesia here directly by watching and reading all the heritage stuff they keep in museum. Lots of stuff are oriented from different geographic location around Indonesia from the past till now. Kids can learn lots of information by having practical walkthrough. Good place for kids to learn something during weekends or free time. Enjoy it.

One of the best museums in Jakarta It’s a beautiful place filled with many interesting and historical items depicting the richness and variety of Indonesia’s culture. My favorite part is the jewelry collection and the historical parts from many parts of Indonesia. We occasionally use some venues in this lovely Museum for events, including the UN day celebration

As a tourist, the National Museum has been my favorite experience in Jakarta so far! After being in the museum for about 10 minutes, I was invited to join a free English tour (started at 10 AM that day) and I'm so glad I went on it. Dennis, the tour guide, was a wealth of knowledge and presented information in an entertaining way - I couldn't stop listening! The museum covers many aspects of the vast Indonesian culture such as Hindu statues/stories, spice trading, archaeology, textiles, treasures, and more. If you have a few hours to spend - I'd highly recommend visiting and taking a tour!
